About the Recipe
A good recipe for the classic sweet-cinnamon cookie.
Ingredients
1 cup shortening
1½ cups white sugar
2 eggs
2¾ cups white flour
1 tsp baking soda
2 tsp cream of tartar
½ tsp salt
2 Tbsp white sugar
2 tsp ground cinnamon
Preparation
Preheat the oven to 350° F/175° C.
In a medium bowl, cream together the shortening and 1½ cup sugar. Add eggs separately, mixing after each. Sift together the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt. Stir dry mixture into the creamed mixture until well blended.
In a small shallow bowl, stir together 2 Tbsp sugar and cinnamon. Roll the dough into walnut-sized balls and roll the balls in the sugar mixture. Place cookies 2 inches/5 cm apart on a greased cookie sheet.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven; cookies should be slightly golden at the edges. Remove to cool on wire racks.
